Pal Madden has not attended a seminary or a bible college. He has had no professional ministry training. So, why is Pal writing a book about Christianity and the church? What makes him qualified? What does a "lay" person have to say that the church needs to hear?
In the deepest part of his heart Pal gained a unquenchable thirst for Christ Centered ministry as a young "Y" boy under the leadership of a man described as the most authentic Christian he ever knew - Cobern Kelley. However, Cobern Kelley, known as "Kelley", died when Pal was twelve years old leaving him with no ongoing Christian influence in his life.
As a result, Pal's relationship with Christ lost its intimacy, and with it the
clean spiritual innocence and FREEDOM he had so loved as a "Y" boy in his youth. Further, his life's passion for Christ Centered living and ministry would lay covered over through his succumbing to worldly influence.
However, after eleven years away from the Lord the spirit broke through, and at the age of twenty three Pal returned to Christ on a Christmas Eve in 1978. He had come to Christ, yes, but left in want of the spiritual freedom he knew at the "Y" as a young boy.
In his book, "Y NOT?", Pal blends the personal stories, struggles, setbacks, victories, and the many lessons he learned through a twenty seven year wilderness experience - a journey he traveled seeking the spiritual freedom he lost in his youth.
Among other things, Pal reveals what he believes fuels the current malaise, apathy, and complacency in the present day Institutional church. Through words and visual illustrations the evidence revealed shows why the church has been suffocating itself, and dying a slow death in the West.
However, this book is not simply another expose on the problems within the church. No, this is a solutions oriented book that is a must read wherever you are in relationship to God. Futher, as it relates to the church, you may find yourself thinking this man has been living inside your head ever since you came to Christ.
"Y NOT?" is a clarion call to Christians everywhere to return the church back to its God given, mandated mission of church development and discipleship through helping all those placing their faith in Christ to take the ownership Christ intends each of us to have in our own personal ministry. And, to learn again how to multiply and reproduce the life through free, spontaneous, organic means.
That said, are you getting on with the Life, being the Life, doing the Life, sharing the Life, building the Life, living the Life, coming to Life, centering the Life, and reproducing the Life? Are you experiencing the freedom to grow, mature, and the joy that comes from helping others do the same?
